Mandela Day - A Trip to Baphumalele

To celebrate Mandela Day and contribute our 67 minutes towards making the world a better place we spent the after noon at Baphumalele Children's Home in Khayelitsha.

This incredible home was started in the late 80s by Rosie Mashale. Along with a group of other women, she began looking after unsupervised children in Khayelitsha from her home. After just one week 36 children had joined.

From humble beginnings, Baphumalele now has 9 fully fledged projects. The home with just over 100 orphaned, abused or abandoned children; a preschool, creche, and Grade R for 230 children; a respite care centre, for those with terminal illness; a kitchen, bakery and wood workshop to sell goods and teach skills; as well as Fountain of Hope, an acre of farmland where 18 - 21 year olds who have been raised in residential care can learn skills and more, to become self-sufficient adults.

At M&C Saatchi Abel we do our best to help out the kids of Baphumalele as much as we can.

But there is no such thing as enough.

So if you have anything, and I mean anything to donate to this incredible cause, please do. Money, food (perishable or non-perishable), toys, clothes (new-born to adult), toiletries, medical supplies, blankets, school supplies, your time and love, ANYTHING. To sponsor a child for a year costs R5,000, so if you can, please try. There is also this wishlist to give you a few other ideas.
